With the end of the year upon us, many employees may not feel very motivated to for work. There’s a lot to get done, but thoughts of presents, pie and family time tend to dance around in their thoughts.
While these things aren’t particularly bad, there are some things that your business can do to help maximize productivity during this time of year. Here are a few helpful tips.
If you don’t currently offer flex time or have been thinking about offering flex time, now is the perfect time to give it a shot. Flextime is great because it allows the employee to choose when they will work their hours per week.
The holiday seasons can be hectic and this can help alleviate some stress that your employees are feeling. Flextime creates a happier and more satisfying workplace because your employees will feel that you are looking out for them. If you can offer flextime, you’ll gain increased productivity and worker satisfaction, along with decreased absenteeism.
Offer Paid Days Off
Paying employees for the holidays can also keep them happy and focused during this time of year. With all the stress of getting presents for family members, preparing food and even traveling, having paid holidays off can relieve your workers from stress.
If you close for a holiday but do not offer paid holidays, non-exempt employees are generally not entitled to pay. However, exempt employees must still receive their full salary, as long as they work any part of the workweek.
Many employees may have not used any sick days this year and might use them to call in sick during this time of year. This is a perfect example of absenteeism.
Many employees will use the day before or the day after holiday parties or the actual holiday to call in. You can reduce these unnecessary absences by either giving those days off or having employees work a certain number of hours that week to be qualified for holiday pay.
Listen to your Employees
Maybe your employees have some thoughts of how they would like to work around the holidays. Take the time to listen to them and come up with a solution that can work for everyone.
There’s no doubt that this time of year is fun for just about everyone. However, the business side of life never stops and work does need to be completed before a break happens. In order to make the company work flow to keep humming smoothly, keep your employees happy and focused.
